I am notorious for trying to do everything at once, or nothing because there is too much to do in one setting and I start to feel overwhelmed. After living with my in-laws for a bit while we built our current house I worked hard to keep things cleaned up in their house (i.e. dishes, laundry) to try and make our presence feel less like a burden. To keep the clutter at bay, I started working on taking care of things daily. This was actually a large step for me as I have never really been good at this; kind of a surprise considering my mother and sister, but sadly true. Due to this, I started to form some new and good habits that have carried through into our new home. I now do the dishes (almost) every evening, I have started to clean the counters off each night as well as the table (again most nights), work on pieces of my blog such as downloading photos, editing the photos, or starting the wording of a post, working on lunch preparation for me and my son, and of course laundry. Through this I have learned...
- I feel way more accomplished by the time I crawl into bed
- I am less overwhelmed with the everyday things
- I find I actually enjoy my time with these tasks and love seeing a clean room
- I love the delay button on our washer and dishwasher! I can now throw laundry in before work, have it finish as I am coming home and hang it up or throw it in the dryer! Best thing ever!
- A weekly meal plan can really help you save money, eat better, and feel less overwhelmed about dinner
- It is great not having a TV! I get way more done and have far less distractions.
I am still making progress, but I feel like things are way better now that I have learned how to take tasks more in steps. What are some things you guys do to keep your life on track, house clean, and your to-do list checked off? I would love to hear about them in the comments below!
P.S. I love the turning leaves here in Colorado lately...they are very vibrant this year!
